Imperial’s Dutch plant now running on hydropower

Imperial Tobacco’s manufacturing site in the Netherlands is now being powered purely by renewable energy.

Since last month the 8,200 MWh of electricity needed each year to run the company’s fine-cut tobacco facility in Joure has been generated by Nordic hydropower plants.

Factory manager Robert Hall said that the plant’s management team had taken the opportunity when a two-year energy tariff had been offered at a highly competitive rate.

“We’re very proud to contribute to our corporate goal of reducing our environmental impact by purchasing all of our electricity through hydropower,” said Hall.

“Our team members are also proud to work for a company that not only expresses this environmental goal, but more importantly takes the actions needed to accomplish it.”
