 Sri Lanka signs trade protocol

Sri Lanka has signed the United Nations’ Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products, according to a story in The Nation.

The protocol was adopted during the fifth session of the Conference of the Parties to the World Health Organization’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control on November 12 2012 and was made available for signature at a signing ceremony in Geneva, Switzerland, on January 10-11 2013. More than 50 countries have signed the protocol and 15 have ratified it.

The protocol aims to secure the tobacco-products supply chain through a series of measures including the establishment of a product tracking and tracing system.
