Health warning causes distress

An Austrian woman whose husband died from causes unrelated to smoking is claiming the EU is using without permission a picture of him on his deathbed as a health warning on cigarette packs, according to a story in The Local citing an ORF ZiB program.

The woman and her family, who say the husband, Franz Wegerer, never touched a cigarette in his life, are now consulting a lawyer.

The EU commission denies, however, that the man in the picture is the woman’s late husband.

It says the picture is of a German person who gave his permission for the picture to be used.
