Central revenue department officials in India have allegedly discovered unaccounted-for cash amounting to about Rs30 million during searches of cigarette manufacturers’ premises in the Punjab and those of their trading partners across the country, according to a story quoting official sources.

The officials were said to have seized cigarettes worth Rs4.8 million during the searches.

Suspicions were raised when packs of 10 cigarettes, which should attract excise duty of Rs12.36, were found to be on sale for between Rs3.00 and Rs5.00.
