Duty-free has potential

 Duty-free has potential

A new study by TFWA (Tax Free World Association) has shown that there is ‘ample opportunity’ for further growth of tobacco sales in the duty-free and travel-retail sector.

According to a TFWA press note, the study showed too that promoting the savings offered by duty-free and travel retail was one of the main issues to consider in the quest to increase footfall, conversion and spend.

The tobacco report is part of the TFWA Category Reports series, produced by Counter Intelligence Retail and made available to TFWA members.

The study was based on about 1,000 shopper interviews conducted at four ‘key airports across the globe’. A minimum of 50 percent of the sample was said to have comprised duty free buyers.

Price is not the only way to encourage purchases. Eighty-seven percent of purchasers choose their regular product when buying at duty-free and travel-retail, which was said to highlight the importance of prominently displaying key brands.
