 Tanzania power outages costly

Tanzania Tobacco Processors (TTP) says power-grid outages are adding more than 100 million shillings a month to its power costs, according to an All-Africa.com story.

The company’s group managing director, Mark Mason, said frequent power outages hindered the development of most industries in the country and he asked the government to ensure there was a stable power supply.

Mason said that when TTP used power from the national grid it paid 173.3 million shillings a month, but that it had to pay 300 million shillings in generator running costs a month during power rationing.

TTP’s purchases of tobacco has declined during the past three years: from 48,000 tonnes during 2014, to 33,000 tonnes last year and 25,000 tonnes this year.
