E-cig pack is Carton of the Year

E-cig pack is Carton of the Year

An electronic-cigarette pack was last week named Carton of the Year at the 20th Pro Carton EMCA Award 2016.

In commenting on the award, the jury said that, from the front face, the pack looked like a refined, premium pack with lovely embossing, hot foil and varnishes.

‘It is not until you open it that the My. Von Erl pack really creates that “wow” moment,’ it commented.

‘Without the use of any … material other than cartonboard, the pack holds together – and presents beautifully – all of the elements and extras needed for this eCigarette product.

‘The board engineering is truly impressive.’

The official name of the entry was My. Von Erl, while AR Packaging Group was named as the other entrant. The carton producer was A&R Carton Graz; the brand owner was Von Erl; the structural designers were Heinz Steinkellner and Mario Rassi (A&R Carton Graz); the graphic designer was Steve Graham, art director, MUT Agency; and the cartonboard manufacturer was Metsä Board.

Meanwhile, the winner of the non-food category was the Camacho Cigar Packaging for the US market, which the jury described as being a completely new way of presenting cigars using cartonboard instead of tin. The jury described the pack as ‘[v]ery eye-catching and totally unexpected, giving rise to a lot of interest from the judges’.

The official name of the entry was Camacho Cigar Packaging US Market, while the other entrant was the carton producer, PAWI Verpackungen. The brand owner was Oettinger Davidoff; the structural designer was Stephan Springer, PAWI Verpackungen; the graphic designer was Scott Birtwistle; and the cartonboard manufacturer was Iggesund.
