Altria has stake in iQOS application

Following yesterday’s announcement by Philip Morris International that it had made a Modified Risk Tobacco Product (MRTP) application in the US, Altria has issued a reminder that it has an exclusive license to sell the product in the US.

Altria said that it had noted that PMI had announced the submission to the US Food and Drug Administration’s Center for Tobacco Products of an MRTP application for an electronically heated tobacco product.

‘FDA will now determine whether to accept the application for substantive review, Altria said in a note posted on its website.

‘Upon regulatory authorization by the FDA, Altria’s companies have an exclusive license to sell this heated tobacco product in the United States.’
